Racist Zionist Death Penalty Law Legislates for “Judicial Murder”

London – The Israeli Knesset has passed into law the death penalty bill targeting Palestinians. The law, devised by the genocidal security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, marks a watershed moment, where the death penalty becomes a near-mandatory consequence exclusively for Palestinians, who routinely face military courts with a near-100% conviction rate.

The law will fail in its aims to deter Palestinians involved in resisting Israeli occupation and specifically bring an end to prisoner exchanges, because so long as there is occupation, Palestinians retain the legal and moral right to resist it. This law, therefore, cannot be divorced from the reality of illegal occupation and judicial apartheid.

The Human Rights Network for Palestine described that the law “represents a highly dangerous legal and political turning point that could legitimise judicial executions of Palestinians within the context of prolonged military occupation, a discriminatory legal and judicial system, and a documented reality of torture, arbitrary detention, and systemic violations of fair trial guarantees.”

In response to the passing of the Palestinian death penalty law, Anas Mustapha, Head of Public Advocacy at CAGE International, said:

“It is foolhardy to assume that threatening those dispossessed of everything with death will deter their resistance. Not only do they have the right to do so, but Palestinians involved in resisting an illegal occupying entity ought to be afforded full protections under the Geneva convention.

The architects of this law wish to escalate the onslaught on Palestinians by legislating ‘judicial murder.’ They are in no position to give moralistic postures, instead their state should be dismantled and its leaders should face trial for exacting the world’s first ever live-streamed genocide.”
