Once we learnt that our bank accounts were closed, CAGE wrote a detailed letter to Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, the Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee – a seemingly independent body which holds the Home Office and its selected bodies to account – asking him to raise these matters with HM Treasury. And to further allow us to make representations to the Committee with regards to this, in order to maintain "the correct balance between protecting civil liberties and policing/security issues whilst ensuring respect for the rule of law" as the Committee seeks to uphold. We have yet to receive a response from Mr Vaz.
