On 11th January 2002, the first detainees were brought to Camp X-Ray at Guantanamo Bay detention camp (‘Gitmo’).

They would be the first of 779 detainees held there, as prisoners of George W Bush’s ‘War on Terror’. 20 years on, 39 detainees remain.

As we approach the 20 year anniversary of the opening of Guantanamo, CAGE is calling on all mosques and Islamic centres to dedicate this Friday’s khutbah to call for the closure of Guantanamo Bay – please download the khutbah template prepared by CAGE below.

The purpose of the khutbah is to:

1) Build awareness of the forgotten prisoners in GITMO.
2) Remind the Ummah the importance of standing up for justice.
3) Inspire, empower, and have a positive impact on the community.
4) To highlight 20 years of GITMO still open.
