Syrian Foreign Fighters ‘owed an apology’: Sufyan Kamal speaks exclusively to CAGE International

London – In an exclusive interview, British ‘foreign fighter’ Sufyan Mustafa Kamal shares how his effort to support the Syrian people in their struggle against tyranny was reframed as ‘terrorism,’ ultimately resulting in the revocation of his British citizenship.
Speaking from Syria with CAGE International’s Senior Director Moazzam Begg, Kamal recounts how the erosion of legal norms in so-called ‘national security’ cases triggered a harrowing three-year ordeal—marked with arrests, deportations and imprisonment for years despite never being convicted of any crimes.
Kamal, an articulate and well-spoken young man, reflects on the resilience of the Syrian people, his motivations for joining the revolution, and why he believes foreign fighters are owed an apology in light of the recent normalisation of relations between Western governments and the new Syrian revolutionary government.
