Coronavirus Pandemic: CAGE’s commitments and precautions

March 20, 2020
Audio

We pray that all those reading this are in the best of health and faith. We ask Allah to ease this test of Coronavirus (Covid-19) for us all, and to grant a full recovery to those that are affected. After extensive discussions, and in anticipation of an imminent lockdown, we have decided to postpone all our community events for the time being. We all need to do our bit to ensure that the communities we live in are afforded the best case scenario of overcoming this pandemic. However, although our offices remain closed, CAGE is still fully operational. Watch this space for online events and fresh and innovative ways that we will be staying in touch. Please keep a lookout for our upcoming emails and social media updates.  Our casework service will continue and we will remain on hand to assist and support as usual insha’Allah. We will only be limiting in-person meetings, but we will compensate with video calls where necessary.  We will also be continuing with our campaigns and ensuring that we don’t stop the fight for justice. This week we launched the #HandsOffOurHijabs campaign which has seen significant engagement on social media and in the mainstream press, despite challenges. We know the Government will be introducing new powers to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic, so we will also be keeping a close watch to ensure that these powers do not harm our communities.  Covid-19 is a true test for Muslims - and for all of humanity. Allah will remove this test at a time of His choosing. Until that time, we should exhort one another to sabr (fortitude) and salah (prayer).  We should always strive to act responsibly, with prudence and not increase panic or fear, rather, to bring calm and peace - and to take the chance to help those who are in need.  And don’t forget that, after Allah’s assistance, CAGE relies entirely on your continued support. We are calling on you, our supporters, to continue to engage with us on new platforms, donate as much as you can, and in so doing ensure that our work can continue. We regret the lack of face-to-face contact, but will be striving to maintain that unique CAGE community feel, even though we can’t be there in person with all of you.

"And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful" Quran 10:107
